Midi Visualizer

2026

For this particular video, I used a projector mounted to the rafters to beam a video down of a piano roll onto a curved plane and a cardboard piano, with some visualized midi notes. I created several different variations and channels using the Waveform 13 DAW, then imported them into See Music, the MIDI visualizer used by countless YouTube tutorials. I then mapped each video's volume and opacity to an 8-channel mixing controller. These videos included vocals, bass, percussion, and more. For the icons, I designed each one in Illustrator based on Y2K and made individual videos of each one with a note in the scale of the music. I then programmed Mad Mapper to respond to each individual note on a second MIDI controller.

This project was wonderfully complex, and I even got to present it! People loved the aesthetic and enjoyed mixing various songs with it.

This is what people would see as they interacted with the MIDI controllers.

This photo was taken when it was time to disassemble the visualizer. I was a little sad, but the presentation went great, so it was nice to finally have some closure after people enjoyed testing it out.
